Is My Smartphone Hurting Me?
Smartphones destroyed a generation. I agree with this view. Everyone that I know my
age, besides a select few, lives on their phones. Up until middle school, my friends and
I would bike over to each other's houses and knock on the front door asking to hang
out. I can’t recall the last time I knocked on the front door of a friend's house. Now
I text them asking to hang out and then text them when I get there.
“... a generation shaped by smartphones and the concomitant rise of social media.”
(paragraph 7). Almost everyone from our generation has had some sort of social
media account before high school. Most of these people post about their lives and
you can tell who someone is without ever meeting them.
I first got a smartphone in sixth grade. When I first got it, it wasn’t a huge deal to
me, but now I use it every day. When I go to my cabin I don’t use it at all because
I don’t have service there but I don’t mind not using it. To me, my phone is a tool
for communication and learning new things. If I’m not using it to benefit me in any
way then I don’t need it.
I think that too much social media can cause problems in life and the younger
generations are going to be less social because of this.
